How to remove EXIF and location from photos before posting to X
Remove EXIF before tweeting by stripping the photo's metadata on your device, or by sending it through a tool that strips it on upload. Evenpost, an app for X (Twitter) that lets an AI agent draft posts you approve on your phone, removes EXIF, XMP and location data from every photo the moment it arrives.
Evenpost / Answers / Remove EXIF before posting
A phone photo carries more than pixels. Its EXIF and XMP metadata can hold the GPS position where it was taken, the time, the camera and its serial number. If that file reaches someone with the metadata intact, a photo of your desk can show where you live.
Three ways to remove EXIF before tweeting
- On an iPhoneIn the share sheet, tap Options at the top and turn off Location before you share. This removes the position; other details may stay.
- On a MacOpen the photo in Preview, choose Tools, then Show Inspector, open the GPS tab and click Remove Location Info. Save, then post the saved copy.
- In EvenpostAttach the photo in the app or through your agent. EXIF, XMP and location data are removed on upload, before the photo is stored. The rotation is kept, so a phone photo still shows the right way up.
What Evenpost removes and what it keeps
Removed: EXIF, XMP, the GPS position, camera and serial details, comments, and anything stored after the image itself, such as extra images and motion clips. Kept: the rotation, and the pixels of any JPEG within X's limits. Photos are stored privately until they post and for 30 days after.
Does X remove location data from photos?
Whether X removes location data from photos is up to X, and it can change, so do not rely on it. Remove the location yourself before the photo leaves your device, or send it through a tool that strips it on upload, as Evenpost does for every photo you attach.
Does removing EXIF lower photo quality?
Removing EXIF does not lower photo quality when it is done right: the metadata sits beside the pixels, so it can be dropped without touching them. Evenpost removes it that way, and a JPEG within X's limits keeps every pixel. Re-saving the photo in an editor is what can cost quality.
Will my photo still be the right way up?
Your photo will still be the right way up after Evenpost removes EXIF. Phones often store rotation as a metadata tag instead of turning the pixels, so Evenpost keeps that one tag and removes the rest. Tools that wipe all metadata can drop it and leave a photo sideways.
